Former President Bill Clinton appeared on Meet the Press on Sunday and most notably his comment that the a vast right-wing conspiracy that once targeted him is now focusing on President Obama. We're going to look at the clip of the interview that includes this plus his comments about the word of the Clinton Global Initiative. A repeat of '94
First, let's look at some words from the fist video. In one question, David Gregory makes reference to "a repeat of '94" meaning the 1994 mid-term election 2 years after Clinton took office that was a disaster for Democrats: the Republicans won 8 seats to take control of the Senate and 54 seats to take over the House of Representatives. The Democrats had controlled the House in all but 4 of the 72 years prior to this election.
- vast (big, wide)
- you bet (absolutely)
- virulent (poisonous, injurious)
- take his numbers down (referring to his popularity poll numbers)
- run his opposition up (referring to those who oppose him)
- they took 15 of our members out (they caused 15 Democrats to lose their congressional elections)
Clinton also speaks in this interview about the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and the work they've been doing all around the world. First, more (very depressing) vocabulary:
- beaten (hit)
- raped (sexually assaulted)
- bondage (being enslaved)
- livelihoods (one's financial means to live)
Now, take a look at this video here.
Tell me: do you agree with Bill Clinton about what citizenship means in the 21st century?
