One of the big news events today will be President Zapatero's attendance and speech (reportedly he will read from the Bible) at the National Prayer Breakfast. This is an old and bi-partisan tradition in the US, but this year there has been some controversy. The Daily Training is a video of Rachel Maddow interviewing Melanie Sloan, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). CREW is calling on the President and Congress to not attend this event.
- troubling (distressing)
- alleged (declared but not proved)
- shadowy (shady, lacking clarity)
- frat-house (fraternity house, where male university students who are fraternity members live)
- landmark (prominent position)
- dispel (drive away)
- innocuous (harmless)
- imprimatur (formal approval)
- bogus (false, fraudulent)
- earmark problems (problems with legislative funds for special projects)
Now, take a look at the video here.
Tell me: do you think Obama and Zapatero should attend this event?
Extra credit: the breakfast will take place from 7:30-9:30am Eastern time and you should be able to find live coverage on CSPAN.
