This Op-ed in the New York Times by Justin Vaïsse, senior fellow and the director of research at the Center on the U.S. and Europe at the Brookings Institution has some tough talk for Europe, I'll be very interested to hear your reaction to it.

• snubs (to ignore)
• get their acts together (get serious)
• rebuff (reject)
• spurred (pushed, stimulated)
• coalesce (unite, fuse)
• triggering (put in motion)
• break ranks (publicly disagree with one's own group)
• overcome (surmount an obstacle)
• nasty (offensive)
