Katy Couric interview President Obama during the pre-Super Bowl show on Sunday. This video is a little longer than most Daily Trainings but since it's Obama speaking, you'll find it easy to understand on the first listen. Note, that Couric mentions, when talking about health care reform "people watch the sausage being made." This is a common expression talking about the often messy process of making legislation. Here are a few more words:
- back off (slow down or stop)
- beating down (hurting)
- drain (empty)
- start at square one (start from the beginning)
- keep in mind (remember)
- nonsense (has no meaning)
- turn your stomach (make you sick)
- earmarks (fund spent on specific local projects)
- pork projects (government spending on specific local projects)
- bending the cost curve (bringing costs down)
- uphold our due process (continue/follow our law and legal rights)
- Miranda rights (rights read by an officer to a person in custody before they are interrogated.)
- clammed up (shut up, stopped talking)
Now, watch the video here.
Tell me: do you think a bi-partisan health care summit is a good idea?
