One of the strangest and most surprising stories of Tuesday's primary is that of Alvin Greene who won the South Carolina Democratic nomination for the US Senate. The only money he spent was the $10,400 required to register as a candidate and nothing else. Democratic party officials were caught off guard--this is generally considered an un-winnable race against Republican incumbent Jim DeMint and a candidate with experience had been selected to try his best. The story gets worse since it's been revealed that he faces felony charges...a great example of how political parties have less control over their candidates in the US system of government than in parliamentary systems.

Note is a "tea party" candidate who won a Democratic primary in Indiana so the party base understandably wants to know what makes him a Democrat. He also had a bad luck in that the whole thing was recorded and uploaded to the Huffington Post (doh!) It's been edited so it's hard to tell how bad it actually was in person.
